a while ago on twitter there was this whole trend about variants (characters that share traits) so i decided to make a collage for Odara variants... i decided to redo it and explain my choices..

sunny (omori) - odara is similarly introspective and has a strong tendency to resort to escapism. she's very hard to catch because she's in the city of tollan so often. calm perfect skies

monika (ddlc) - odara's relationship with kukulkan resembles monika's relationship with the player. odara becomes kukulkan's second disciple because she sees the him as like... representing the only Truth or Sense in a very chaotic and fragile natlan. i will say that odara is NOT romantically interested in kukulkan

shinji ikari (nge) - like shinji, odara is very fearful of emotional discomfort and desires peace, which she hopes to achieve through huitzilopotchli

rantaro amami (drv3)/riyo reaper (gachiakuta) - these r more superficial but odara shares their youthful mannerisms and relaxed personality. also with both characters theres this sort of mysterious vibe like theres something more GOING ON HERE

in my head everyone has a unique laugh which i will share despite how cringe it is

rene - nishishi
ikari - kekeke
sofiya - gahaha when genuine
baojin - he laughs normally
odara - nehehe
claudia - kyehehaha

kukulkan really has to pick better disciples. his first disciple summons the wayob and curses natlan to live under its corruption for hundreds of years. then the second overcorrects and helps in basically nuking all of natlan and its history. this is bad!! the pendulum is broken!!!!

i think lilakai conducts her life with this overwhelming anxiety. but like it's not really social (even if she is sort of lacking there and is a bit of a pushover)

for example! she gets very anxious about throwing away certain things and had a tendency to hold onto things. ifa is amazed that lilakai can do any work at all when her office is full of clutter. she has tons of saved letters in this one box but she leaves many of the more sentimental ones untouched

i also think lilakai stresses a lot about doing the Wrong Thing. lots of guilt for no apparent reason

odara didn't unseal the volcano for a greater purpose like that. but kukulkan definitely said something like that to her when she fell down there. ALL PART OF THE COSMIC PLAAAN

i like to think ikari's eyes (the black sclera) would look different if he got human form through means other than being flashbanged by istaroth. ikari definitely saw many a thing in the moment that curse/blessing was cast....

while going to the book store i thought about rene (beaumont)... they are just a little caterpillar on a leaf... a dot on a single flat plane...

rene de petrichor already figured out the apocalypse at like 8 years old and then died cuz he was too obsessed over dying and turned into big water goop. rene beaumont doesnt worry too hard about the edges of Their World... making freeze toasters and whatever. i think they could make somethign groundbreaking they just Don't Feel Like It Right Now

a while ago i read wittgenstein's tractatus logico philosophicus to best this one annoying pretentious guy in my summer class and it's been lingering in my head ever since. therefore! i will sprinkle a Little bit of it into rene. what is typically considered nonsense or unspeakable (according to wittgenstein) is shifted a little in genshin impact because it's a fantasy game... but the general idea still applies

i won't really explain the book in depth because it's not like my oc was born DIRECTLY from the tractatus or anything. but i say this: petrichor obsesses over the unspeakable while beaumont dwells in the speakable. thats logic!

i'm not sure exactly what weapon she would use in combat but i like the idea of odara using a bow... seeing her draw it back so gallantly would be so cool!!!!

i think it would more clearly show odara's state of mind (similarly to azula's firebending from atla). odara's only a calm person superficially... so maybe when she's extremely panicked she abandons the precision of the bow and just charges in with an arrow or something else melee...

related i think spending a day in odara's brain would be soo crazy. i think her inner monologue sounds very composed but it can be very fallacious or sometimes delusional....

kicking rene would probably send them bouncing all over the place like a balloon boing boing boing wapow

sofiya's name isn't danish like her brother's is in the same way that asian immigrant families give their kids english names... i could build on that but i no no wanna

ANOTHER THOUGHT: i think sofiya is a pretty smart and calculating person in a way that is Somewhat like nefer. sofiya cheats and lies and listens but like... she's too caught up with putting on airs and being annoying. for this reason nefer is a bit tougher on her. like omg go rub some dirt on it bruh

i think i'll lean harder into a greek harpy theme for claudia. if she's blonde that'd give off a sort of delinquent vibe... yes...

if she were in some anime high school setting she'd wear one of those long sukeban skirts

what exactly is odara's job?!?! i will explain!

• the guardian of tollan is a title that gets passed down in the collective of the plenty/teteocan. how is it picked? who can say. how often does it change? ehhhh idk
• they essentially perform rituals to make sure the volcano (tollan) doesn't totally blow up or fizzle out and die. also! they protect it from nogoodniks wanting to mess around with the nearby ruins
• the guardian could be seen as a symbol of balance... which is important if the wellbeing of your tribe is based on the health of a volcano
• origins of this title... are either connected to the old legend about the flamelords blessing or chaac, the first human to learn phlogiston
• nowadays the guardian of tollan isn't really supposed to go inside the volcano. after all... it's sealed for a reason... and they mainly deal with the human side of things anyway. so there's not much point in going to the city of tollan!
• the guardian is... not necessarily hidden away and isolated... odara is just hard to catch. maybe some of the previous ones hung around a bit more

lilakai has a gentler appearance and personality but she is more masculine in her fashion choices and attitudes. like... she might prefer pants and suits. she might be pretty chivalrous.

i used to imagine her voice a bit higher (something like sucrose) but i had a dream recently where she spoke in a more boyish voice too... ah!!!!!!!
